Dialogue between Abstract and Figurative Painting
Works from 1905 to 1990

The exhibition scheduled for April aims to highlight how figurative and abstract painting can engage in a perfect harmony; despite seeming opposite, there is a rich interweaving of influences and connections between the two styles; both can convey feelings, ideas, and moods.
The exhibition begins with a symbolist work by artist Emilio Notte (Ceglie Messapica, Brindisi, 1891 - Naples, 1982) executed around 1910; an enigmatic piece, pervaded by a sense of mystery and unreality that evokes the atmosphere of dreams and visions made even more suggestive and emotionally engaging through the use of vivid color and energetic brushstrokes.
In the work "Donna in un interno" from 1911, artist Arturo Noci (Rome, 1874 - New York, 1953) is able to convey not only visual beauty but also atmosphere and light through skillful use of color, making it even more immersive and fascinating.
Alongside this work, we find two expressionist compositions by Paul Ackerman (Jassy, Romania, 1908 - Paris, 1981); pieces that reflect immense luminosity, dominated by warm tones in perfect balance with Arturo Noci's figurative work.
George d’Espagnat (Paris, 1870 - 1950), a post-impressionist artist, is featured in the exhibition with a refined and harmonious "Natura morta" from 1905.
The canvas by Douglas Swan from 1961 (Connecticut, USA, 1930 - Bonn, Germany, 2000) depicts an enigmatic scene, devoid of perspective; a figure in the center of the painting walks towards the viewer, almost symbolizing the transition between life and death, all emphasized by a light that dominates the background.
Maximilien Luce (Paris, 1858 - Rolleboise, France, 1941), "Le banchine della Senna," is the title of the exhibited work that belongs to one of the artist's most celebrated periods: the workers laboring along the Seine.
An important visual document of life and work in the era of French industrialization, as well as a significant example of the artist's mastery in portraying everyday life with sensitivity and empathy.
The exhibition continues with the expressionist work of Georges Romathier (Lyon, 1927 - Boscamnant, France, 2017) depicting a swirling composition, characterized by an explosion of colors and landscape works that fit well within an abstract context.
