Anders Osterlind
Lépaud (Creuse, F), 1887 – Parigi 1960
His first exhibition was in 1907 at the Salon de la Societé Nationale des Beaux-Arts. He subsequently exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in 1918 and the Salon d'Automne in 1922 , the Salon des Tuileries and the Salon des Vikings, of whose jury he was president, and the Salon du Dessin et de la Peinture à l'eau, of which he served as vice president.
The son of Swedish painter Allan Osterlind and a French mother, he approached painting as a self-taught artist. During his youth he frequented great modern artists such as Othon Friesz, Amedeo Modigliani, and the composer Villa-Lobos. He fought as a volunteer in World War I, was an officer in the Legion of Honor and awarded the French Medal of Recognition. His first exhibition is in 1907, at the Salon de la Societé Nationale des Beaux-Arts. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in 1918 and at the Salon d'Automne in 1922 (he was also appointed a corporate member); at the Salon des Tuileries; at the Salon des Vikings, of whose jury he was president; and at the Salon du Dessin et de la Peinture à l'eau, of which he served as vice-president.
He participated in the most important international exhibitions organized by the French government and was regularly invited to the Carnegie Foundation in Pittsburg. In 1939 he executed a decoration for the Lycée de Amiens, commissioned by the French state. The city of Paris, in 1955 commissions him to decorate the church of Notre Dame-de-la-Gare-et-des-Moulins.
Until 1938, the year of his father's death, he signed himself Anders Osterlind, then just Osterlind.
